Job Title: Facilities Manager Assistant (Maintenance Coordinator)

Part-time (could become full-time), Hourly; Work schedule includes weekends and evenings; on-call rotations. Schedule determined at discretion of the Facility Manager.

Job Description

Assists Facility Manager in maintaining the cleanliness and upkeep of the physical plant and grounds of St. Philip Parish. Basic knowledge of plumbing and electrical a plus.

Regular Duties Include:

  • Set up and put away tables and chairs for events
  • Remove trash and recycling from classrooms, cafeteria, grounds, etc.
  • Clean church, including straighten chairs, sweep, remove trash, mop
  • Straighten missalettes and restock guest envelopes in pews
  • Clean altar server workroom (working sacristy)
  • Perform other general clean up
  • Check lights and replace bulbs
  • Empty trash cans in front of the church, school, convent and soccer field
  • Handle emergencies/accidents (e.g., liquid spills, broken glass) for the school
  • Clean and restock restrooms (church, school, teacher office, cafeteria)
  • Perform maintenance and repairs as directed by the Facility Manager

Seasonal/Intermittent Duties Include:

  • Maintain grounds and play areas 
  • Sweep sidewalks
  • Remove snow and ice, salt sidewalks during inclement weather
  • Blow leaves off roof and around property as needed
  • Help set up decorations during the Christmas and Easter Season
  • Clean carpets and floors in classrooms in summertime
  • Help with special pickups for Church Festival and school
  • Lift and transport heavy boxes
  • Set-up baptism pool for funerals and baptisms
  • Other duties as assigned

Employee Expectation:

  • Ability to meet physical demands required of position, including ability to: Walk or stand for long periods of time. Bend, twist, squat, crawl and climb ladders in the course of duties. Lift 50 lbs.; use tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity
  • Be knowledgeable about and follow proper chemical handling and cleaning techniques
  • Inform supervisor or designee when you leave church property during working hours
  • Pass a background check and complete Office of Child Protection training
  • Perform all work in a professional manner and in accordance with the standards of the Diocese of Arlington as described in the Employee Policy Manual
  • Self-directed: Completes tasks with little or no supervision; asks for assistance or clarification when further instruction is needed
  • Asks for new assignments when current assigned tasks are completed
