Tabernacle Relocation Project

After much discussion and prayer, and with the full support and permission of Bishop Burbidge, we will be moving the Tabernacle to the center of the sanctuary. The Eucharist is at the heart of all that we do as a parish. The St. Philip community is looking forward to making Our Eucharistic Lord more visible to everyone in the sanctuary and giving Him the highest place of honor.

The project will require some minor construction, including moving the presider’s chair and preparing the shelf that the Tabernacle will sit upon. We will also be moving the Crucifix forward somewhat and making changes to lighting to better display the Tabernacle and Our Lord on the cross. The area where the Tabernacle is currently located will be home to a beautiful new Holy Family statue and a new candle rack.

There are trade-offs in every change, and change itself is not easy for most of us. We are foregoing a great good – intimacy with the Eucharist that the present arrangement offers – for what I hope will be a greater good – increased visibility of the Eucharist for every seat in the congregation. Making this change has been on my heart since I arrived at St. Philip over twelve years ago. Now seems the right time, given the recently launched multiyear National Eucharistic Revival by the U.S. Bishops, and as our own Diocesan Year of the Eucharist (2021-2022) draws to a close. Our plan is to complete the construction by Christmas, so all of our holiday attendees can “Come and see!” the beautiful renovations as we celebrate the birth of our Savior.

This project budget is anticipated to cost $60,000 and many generous parishioners have already donated are considering donating major gifts to support the project. If you are in a position to make a major gift of $1,000, $5,000 or even more to this cause, please contact Fr. Donahue.

Please keep this endeavor in your prayers, especially in the coming month when the renovation work begins. It will be great to celebrate Christmas with Jesus in His new place of honor.
