Bishop Burbidge Reviews the USCCB General Assembly

This week's Walk Humbly Podcast focuses on the Meeting of U.S. Bishops

The Walk Humbly Podcast

  • The U.S. Bishops gathered for their annual Fall General Assembly and focused their attention almost exclusively on the sexual abuse crisis and stronger accountability for bishops. Bishop Burbidge discusses his reaction to a surprising Monday announcement from the Holy See, what the bishops discussed, and why he is hopeful that needed reforms are forthcoming.
  • The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops approved the publication of a document on racism, titled "Open Wide Our Hearts: The Enduring Call to Love, a Pastoral Letter Against Racism." Bishop Burbidge discusses this document and what it communicates.

Listen to the episode

Bishop Burbidge also answers these questions from the faithful:

  • How does Bishop Burbidge manage the sexual abuse crisis of the Church on a daily basis?
  • What are some of Bishop Burbidge’s responsibilities as the new Communications Chair for the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops?

VISIONS Series Begins Dec. 13

Monthly Presentations Look at Insporing Art, Architecture and History

Saint Philip Parish is proud to announce the start of a new educational program titled VISIONS. Produced by parishioner Andrew Zwerneman and the team at Cana Academy, VISIONS is a series of monthly presentations on inspiring art, architecture and history.

The inaugural presentation, Ivan Meštrovic: Song & Prayer Sculpted in Stone, will be offered December 13. Sessions will be held after the 9am Mass in room 2.

Some of the topics include the paintings of Caravaggio, Rembrandt, and Chagall; the architecture of the cathedrals in Chartres and Florence; the transformation of a World War II POW camp by Christians, the rise of the Solidarity movement in Poland, and the day that Rostropovich performed Bach’s Cello Suites at the Berlin Wall.

See stphilipsparish.com/VISIONS for details and the full schedule.
